Cheap Chelsea football kits In a letter to owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, the Supporters Trust says “the club has become a laughing stock both on and off the pitch”.
In the letter, published on Wednesday, they criticise Chelsea’s management and express a number of concerns for fans, pointing out that “sentiment among Chelsea supporters is, in our opinion, at its lowest since the early 1980s”. Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over Chelsea in May 2022 and have since invested over £1bn in player purchases.
“Our vision as owners is clear: We want to make fans proud,” Boehly said in a statement when confirming the deal. However, the letter from the Supporter’s Trust shows that fans are far from happy with the club’s current direction.
“The Chelsea football kit Supporters’ Trust regrets to inform you that we are about to experience, if not already experiencing, a significant shift in supporter opinion that could result in an irreversible poisoning, almost irrespective of the results on the pitch,” the letter reads. “Unless the situation improves, this is likely to result in more targeted chanting, particularly at televised matches, and possibly more organised, open and effective protests from sections of the supporter base.”
The Trust also points out that a lack of communication on various issues frustrates supporters. “The current mood among supporters is critically low and cannot be ignored. The feeling that the club has become a laughing stock, both on and off the pitch, is growing,” the letter emphasises. “Supporters are expressing a rapidly growing lack of trust from large sections of the supporter base, particularly match-goers, in the board, partly due to very limited communication. Many supporters are very concerned about the short and long term future of the football club.”
Mauricio Pochettino’s side currently sit 11th in the Premier League with 11 wins and 10 losses. Despite this, they are still in contention for a trophy this season, with an upcoming FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City kids football shirts in April. They also lost to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, with commentator Gary Neville labelling the team “billion-pound bottle jobs”.
However, the Supporters’ Association emphasised the urgency of getting the club to engage with issues other than on-field performance. “We believe that a greater degree of sharing your vision, including commercial ambitions, with the wider supporter base could be an appropriate way to begin to create a better understanding of what you want to achieve,” the Trust argued. “Communicating how you will transition to a more sustainable operation is crucial if you want to allay widespread supporter concerns.”
